Composer Simon Dobsons new extended work for Brass Band, The Turing Test, performed by BrassBand Willebroek at the Belgian National Finals 2016.
"The work follows the life of Alan Turing, the father of computational science and the pioneer or Artificial intelligence. The music explains his journey through his work as a brilliant young mathematician, into his work at Bletchley park during the war (that essentially helped to end) and finishes with his tragic suicide. The material is woven from outputs of his own theoretical mathematics 'machines' and consists basically of two threads, one lush and organic and the other digital and alien. The opposites battle to portray Turings own test (designed to ascertain the legitimacy of artificial intelligence)."
